God and the media
I was watching the 'Family Guy' cartoon comedy and on one of the parts it showed Jesus calling God, showing God sleeping up in the Heavens with a young blonde woman handing him a condom. Initially I would feel shocked and threatened by this "blasphemous" depiction of God but then I stopped and realized something. If it had been Buddha, Saddartha, or any other deity of another religion, most of us(Americans) would simply laugh and mock it. Why would it be any different to do just the same to the Christian God? We hold our beliefs but yet we take the time to laugh at make amusement out of other's deities and beliefs. We don't think twice doing this but when someone does the same to our God or beliefs, we immediately act like the victim and get defensive. I feel that everyone has to look at religion subjectively before they can truly become a representative or a true follower of a particular religion. It opens up their mind, their heart and enables them to more easy to understand others in general. Especially after being in World Religions class, I have always been pondering about that because I have been starting to look at religions and different beliefs in a subjective manner.
